Road Crossing Patrol - St Margaret's Primary School, Collier Street

Role Responsibility

Term Time Only – 38 weeks per year

The Road Crossing Patrol will be working 5.0 hours per week for 38 weeks per year.

 

The successful applicant will be paid within Kent Scheme Grade KR3, currently pro-rata £2,666 /year (approx. £12.09/hour); £23,337 for full-time equivalent appointment.

As you will be working a short-split shift throughout the day, it is recommended that you should be able to travel to the site in a timely manner.

 

Kent County Council School Crossing Patrol Service currently has a large team of dedicated community-minded individuals carrying out the important role of ensuring the safety of children on the way to and from school.

We are keen to hear from those members of the community who can demonstrate traffic awareness, a sense of responsibility and are keen to show dedication and commitment in carrying out a very important job to make the roads of Kent safer for children. The job involves working independently with minimal supervision for approximately 45 minutes in the morning and afternoon; it is suitable for job share arrangements e.g., morning/afternoons. The current timings are 08:30-09:00am and 15:00-15:30pm.

 

A uniform is provided to protect you against the elements. Some basic IT skills and personal email address are required; you will be required to complete mandatory e-learning.

 

Job Purpose: To ensure the safe passage of school children and other pedestrians who are accompanying them at specific sites, in accordance with the Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1981.

 

Role Responsibilities:

 

Safety: To operate the school crossing patrol point in a safe manner, identifying hazards and the risks they present to children, adult carers, and drivers, maintaining an awareness of traffic movement and speed to stop vehicles safely when required and using control measures to ensure safety of all road users.

 

Customers: To maintain appropriate relationships with children, to control the movement of groups of children at the crossing point, ensuring their personal safety.

 

Reliability: Maintain excellent standard of timekeeping to ensure that the crossing point is always covered at the required times.

 

Information: Report incidents occurring whilst on duty to the Safer Active Journeys Team. Maintain accurate records of working time and absences.

 

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification. 

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

 

This position is at St. Margaret’s Primary School and required in May 2024.
