Public Transport Coordinator

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

Our Public Transport department provides a huge range of transport services for people across the county. We support the local public transport network, coordinate concessionary fares schemes and provide bespoke transport services through contracts with local transport providers.

To join us as a Public Transport Coordinator, you need to be passionate about supporting the people of Kent and aware of the Council’s role in passenger transport. You should also have the confidence to talk to all kinds of people in a professional way, even in challenging situations. Finally, you need to be organised and self-motivated, as you’ll be operating in a busy environment. Whether you’re working on-site or from home, you’ll have the freedom to manage your workload your way.

Your role in our Public Transport team

Our team organises transport for over 12,000 clients and manages around 3,000 individual contracts. On top of that, over 25,000 young people use our concessionary fares scheme, with around 250,000 older and disabled people accessing our adult concessionary travel scheme.

As a Public Transport Coordinator, you’ll see that our clients get excellent transport services that meet their varied needs. Working with the Mainstream Schools Transport and Local Bus Manager, you’ll review existing transport services to make sure people are getting the best from us. You’ll also arrange bespoke transport for students, procure new services where necessary and manage transport contracts. Customer-focused, you’ll be a primary point of contact, liaising with clients, transport providers, colleagues and the public to deliver efficient, high quality transport.

This is a role that calls for great customer communication skills, both written and verbal. It’s essential that you can express yourself well, even in difficult circumstances. We’re also looking for knowledge of Microsoft Office, the ability to meet deadlines and GCSEs (or equivalent). If you like the buzz of being at the heart of a team, we’d like to hear from you.

Join us

In return, you’ll enjoy an excellent work-life balance, access to great rewards via our exclusive schemes and the opportunity to join a range of work-based groups.

We consider people to be our biggest asset, and promote a diverse and inclusive work culture. We’re also progressive and flexible in our approach, with colleagues hybrid working (partly from home and partly in the office). We welcome applications to join us on both a full and part-time basis (depending on the role). Whatever part you play in our team, we’ll provide you with all the support and training you’ll need to succeed. All we ask is that you’re brave, curious, compassionate, responsible and committed to sharing knowledge so we’re stronger together. Our values are important to us, so they need to be important to you.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification

This post is subject to a Basic Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Interviews will be held on 1st and 2nd June 2023

If you're interested in joining us, why not come along to our open session on Friday 5th May between 10:00 and 14:00.  Talk to some of our friendly team, have a coffee and find out more about what we do.  No need to book, just turn up on the day.
