Role Responsibility

Kent Prison Libraries are dynamic and interesting places to work. We offer more than just books – our vital service is an opportunity to improve outcomes for prisoners.

To deliver this, we need the right people serving our customers. We have a vacancy for a part-time Prison Library Assistant and if you enjoy working as part of a team, have a friendly, helpful attitude and are interested in delivering our services to the Prison Community, we would like to hear from you.

You will have good interpersonal skills, feel comfortable meeting prisoners and be able to undertake a diverse range of tasks, often simultaneously.

This role is weekdays only, 28 hours per week, working across both HMP Maidstone and HMP East Sutton Park Libraries. The position is subject to satisfactory Prison Service Clearance.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
