Principal Lawyer

Role Responsibility

KCC’s in-house team is an innovative and ambitious legal service which has recently expanded and we are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced planning lawyer who is committed to supporting our clients, developing others and assisting in leading our Planning & Highways team.

We are a friendly and dedicated team, investing in staff through training and development and offering interesting and varied work.


About the position
This is an exceptional opportunity to undertake varied, high-quality work with like-minded and supportive colleagues who are dedicated to public service and making a difference to local communities.

The successful candidate will assist in leading and developing the existing highly motivated team, as well as personally undertaking a caseload of planning and highways matters. Duties include acting as the lead lawyer for complex and high profile projects, advising and supporting senior officers and elected members at committee in a proactive and politically sensitive manner, being a senior liaison point for the client relationship role and acting as a deputy for the Head of Planning and Highways Team. You will also commission external advice where appropriate to assist in the delivery of the Council’s services and priorities.


About you
The successful candidate will have extensive previous planning and development experience and will be passionate about teamwork and developing others. Good client care skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with others is essential.
