Plan Tree Project Officer

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

Fixed Term: 31st March 2025

Kent County Council is looking for an experienced project officer to help us deliver Kent Plan Tree, our ambitious tree establishment strategy, that over the course of time will not only see our tree resource increase, but will also support natural regeneration, the recovery of wildlife, provide nature-based solutions and enrich people’s lives.

Kent County Council has committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our own estate, operations and wholly owned traded services to net zero by 2030.  The authority also has an ambition that the county’s tree cover will be extended by 1.5 million, establishing one new tree for every resident living in the county.  This goal puts increasing tree cover at the heart of the council and county’s action to reach a net-zero target and tackle the crisis facing our biodiversity.

The Plan Tree Project Officer will be responsible for developing and delivering tree establishment projects and securing the necessary funding and finance to see them implemented.  You will also be responsible for ensuring that any tree establishment follows the “right tree in the right place” philosophy and delivers multiple benefits, including biodiversity and societal gains, plus a wide breadth of ecosystem services.

Flexible working arrangements will be considered for this post – the post holder is not expected to be located in Kent, but they must have the ability to travel to Kent for site visits and meetings as required.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

Please use the ‘reasons for applying’ section within the job application to demonstrate your skills and experience relevant to the person specification for the post; applications will be assessed against this.  The closing date is 8th January 2023. Interviews will be held on 26th January 2023, in Maidstone.
