Role Responsibility

Are you passionate about promoting independence and enabling occupation?

Do you want to make a difference in helping people live the lives that they want to?

If the answer is yes- then we are looking for you!

Within the Older Persons and Physical Disability Directorate, Occupational Therapy is situated at the very start of the person’s pathway into adult social care, recognising the importance of the key values of promoting and maintaining independence. Our Occupational Therapists use a preventative and reablement approach to enable people to use their existing skills and support them to maximise their independence in the areas that are important to them.  We currently have a number of exciting full and part time opportunities for Occupational Therapists (KR9-KR10) across West Kent South, based at West Malling and North Kent based at Gravesend and covering Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley.

You will develop a wide skill set in enablement, major adaptations and specialist equipment.  You will utilise robust Moving and Handling skills to help maximise independence, using alternatives to traditional multi handed care approaches. Full training and support will be provided to further develop the successful candidate’s knowledge and skills.

You should have a proven ability to facilitate proportional, functional, strengths-based assessments and be passionate about maximising independence, building confidence and achieving best outcomes for people; working in a person-centred way. You will need to have good communication and IT skills and be able to work under pressure to prioritise work and manage your time effectively.

We are dedicated to delivering strong support to our staff offering high quality supervision and CPD/training opportunities.

The ability to travel across a wide geographical area in a timely and flexible manner at various times of the day is essential. The service is also increasingly accessible to the public outside of traditional office hours. OPPD staff and managers are increasingly working on a rota basis to ensure that client’s needs are met seven days per week, and this may be required of OTs in the future.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring service and a relevant professional qualification (Occupational Therapy) as well as up to date registration with the appropriate professional body.

We are committed to service user and carer involvement and seek to involve service users and carers in our recruitment processes.

Please state your preferred areas and full time or part time preference on your application forms.

Part time hours are negotiable.
