Museum Curator- Maternity Cover

Role Responsibility

Kent County Council is seeking to appoint a temporary Museum Curator to cover Maternity leave at Sevenoaks Museum.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about working in a museum environment.  This is an exciting opportunity to be creative in raising awareness of the local collections by engaging with the local community.   The role consists of supporting various groups and the general public visiting the Museum which is located in Sevenoaks Kaleidoscope consisting of the Library, Museum and Art Gallery.

The Museum tells the story of Sevenoaks rich history and its people, it has been developed and curated for families, older people, schools, community groups and the wider public to engage with their local heritage.

We are looking for candidates with experience in caring for collections and keeping collection records updated.  Experience of working on funded projects and working with partners would be welcome but not essential. 

The role will include care of the collections and updating collection information on the museum database. 

The successful candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills and experience of working with a range of stakeholders both internal and external.  As the role also involves maintaining a dedicated Museum website, monitoring and responding to enquiries from the public and managing a team of volunteers.

The working pattern for the 22 hours is negotiable and it is hoped that the successful candidate will be in post early to mid November.

Shortlisting will take place on Tuesday 10th October and interviews will be held on Tuesday 17th October

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
