Multiskilled Operative (Handyperson)
Role Responsibility
Kent County Council is looking for a dependable and approachable Caretaker to oversee the upkeep and day-to-day maintenance of council properties across Kent. This is a hands-on role that ensures our buildings remain clean, safe, and welcoming for staff, visitors, and residents.
Key Responsibilities
• General Maintenance: Carry out minor repairs, decorating, and upkeep of internal and external areas.
• System Checks: Monitor heating, cooling, lighting, and alarm systems to ensure proper function.
• Security Support: Work alongside onsite security to maintain a safe and secure environment.
• Property Oversight: Report maintenance needs, liaise with contractors, and manage supplies.
• Customer Service: Provide a friendly and helpful presence for staff, residents, and visitors.
• Equipment Care: Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they’re in good working order.
• Communal Cleaning: Support cleaning teams to keep shared spaces tidy and presentable.
• Groundskeeping: Tend to flowerbeds and remove natural debris.
• Seasonal Safety: Clear snow and ice from walkways and entrances during winter months.
• Emergency Readiness: Be familiar with emergency procedures and key equipment locations.
• Health & Safety: Conduct regular safety checks to ensure compliance and wellbeing.
✅ What We’re Looking For
• Previous experience in caretaking or property management (preferred)
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Reliable transport and a valid UK driver’s licence
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Confidence in handling basic repairs and maintenance tasks
