Millbank Centre Worker
Role Responsibility
KCC's Service for Unaccompanied Asylum Children (SUASC) is creating a number of new posts at its reception centre. This an exciting opportunity to develop skills and experience in a specialist area of social care. You will be joining a team committed to providing high quality support to newly arrived unaccompanied asylum seeking children in Kent, working closely with social workers, managers and partner agencies.
SUASC is responsible for the care and accommodation of all newly arrived unaccompanied asylum-seeking children in Kent. The reception centre plays a key role in this by supporting the young people accommodated there to attend their appointments, learn independent living skills and engage in activities to help them learn English and feel happy and safe. Once the young people are ready they move from the centre to independent accommodation in communities across Kent.
As a Centre Worker your primary role will be to provide direct care to young people by engaging them in stimulating and meaningful learning activities and encouraging them to express their wishes and feelings and make their own choices as much as possible. You will work in partnership with the Centre Managers, Social workers and other staff to ensure the smooth running of Millbank Reception Centre. Your reports will help provide comprehensive and accurate information is available to Social Workers and Managers so that timely decisions can be made around intervention. Collectively you will help improve the well-being and overall future prospects of the young people.
This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.
