Millbank Centre Manager

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

KCC's Service for Unaccompanied Asylum Children (SUASC) is recruiting for a Centre Manager at the reception centre. This is an exciting opportunity to develop skills and experience in a specialist area of social care. You will be joining a team committed to providing high quality support to newly arrived unaccompanied asylum-seeking children in Kent, working closely with social workers, managers and partner agencies.

SUASC is responsible for the care and accommodation of all newly arrived unaccompanied asylum-seeking children in Kent. The reception centre plays a key role in this by supporting the young people accommodated there to attend their appointments, learn independent living skills, and engage in activities to help them learn English and feel happy and safe. Once the young people are ready they move from the centre to independent accommodation in communities across Kent.

As a Centre Manager your primary role will be to lead a staff group of Centre Workers to encourage the young people’s engagement in these activities, to express their wishes and feelings and make their own choices as much as possible. You will work in partnership with the Service and Team Managers, Social workers, and other staff to ensure the smooth running of Millbank Reception Centre. Your reports will help provide comprehensive and accurate information to Social Workers and Managers so that timely decisions can be made around intervention. Collectively you will help improve the well-being and overall future prospects of the young people.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
