Mental Health Safeguarding Coordinator

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

Are you passionate about promoting good practice in Mental Health Adult Safeguarding?  Can you lead on directing and managing responses to safeguarding concerns raised for individuals at risk of, or experiencing abuse in line with the Statutory Frameworks?  Do you excel in working closely with individuals to promote their wellbeing and in working alongside partner agencies?

We have an opportunity for a senior registered practitioner with extensive statutory safeguarding experience and expertise in developing and managing others,  to join our well established and supportive Mental Health Safeguarding Team.

We are a countywide team aligned to the Local Community Mental Health Teams, inpatient settings and Forensic Services across Kent.  We carry out the Designated Senior Officer role for managing adult safeguarding enquiries in line with S42 of the Care Act 2014, as well as embedding the principles of making safeguarding personal.

As a Safeguarding Coordinator you would be responsible for instigating and coordinating lines of enquiries and for the key decisions in response to safeguarding concerns.  This will also include chairing adult safeguarding meetings.

You will also;

  • Work closely with KCC’s Strategic Adult Safeguarding Unit and Quality assurance function to ensure new initiatives in practice, changes in policies and legislations are reflected in practice.
  • Work alongside Commissioners and colleagues in Mental Health to support good quality care and preventative practices with care providers.
  • Undertake peer audits and reviews to ensure continuous improvement of services.
  • Work closely with external partners to improve outcomes for residents of Kent.

There is a post available to cover West Kent.  However, there is an expectation to cover across areas at times to provide a robust response and therefore flexibility is required.  There will be times you will be required to travel around the county.

Approved Mental Health Professionals applying for this post will be required to continue to contribute to the AMHP rota. This post also requires an Enhanced Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring service and registration as a qualified Social Worker with Social Work England.

External applicants may be eligible for a benefits package including an introductory payment when you first start work for KCC and a relocation package if needed.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

Interview date: Wednesday 24th June 2020
