MCA DOLS Senior Practitioner / Best Interests Assessor

Role Responsibility

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Practitioner Best Interests Assessor within Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS) County Team

Working with the Mental Capacity Act (2005) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (2007) we aim to provide an excellent service which places the rights of the Relevant Person at the centre of everything we do. Our work is essential to empower the individual and we are committed to providing professional guidance and support for our staff, partner colleagues and other interested persons to promote the necessary safeguards when required and to improve outcomes for the Relevant Person.

In this role, you will be expected to undertake day-to-day management duties within the Kent MCA DOLS Service and to provide professional leadership for the delivery of key developments both for the Best Interests Assessors team and DOLS Service. In this role, you will be expected to travel to various locations.

Working within a supportive team, you will manage complex best interests assessments and queries, including S21a DOLS Challenges within the Court of Protection, provide advice and guidance to a range of professionals including independent and rota Best Interests Assessors. It is your registered professional knowledge and Best Interests Assessor specialism that will see you advising at key stages of assessments prior to authorisation and will support ongoing quality assurance of the work of a range of Best Interests Assessors and the wider Service.

Constantly striving to improve the service through new initiatives, you will maintain awareness of changes in legislation and related case law including implementation of Liberty Protection Safeguards.
