Role Responsibility

We are pleased to announce that an exciting opportunity has become available to be part of the new Fostering and Supported Homes Development Team, following the transfer of Supported Homes Hosts to Kent’s Fostering Service and Care Leavers Service in February 2021.

The role is a part time position within the Fostering Service, working alongside the Team Manager, full time Supported Homes Officer, the Co-ordinators for Fostering and Supported Homes Recruitment and Training, and the Initial Enquiries Advisors.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the recruitment, pre-panel training and assessment of Supported Homes Hosts for young people over 16 and Care Leavers.

Kent Fostering has a clear vision for the increased recruitment of Foster Carers and Supported Homes Hosts from the local community, so you will be highly motivated and passionate with sound interpersonal skills, in order to attract, advise and support prospective Hosts to our service.

Experience in undertaking high quality, analytical assessments with adults and children, a discerning approach to your work and understanding of safeguarding is vital, as a large proportion of your time will be spent undertaking initial visits to prospective hosts and completing assessments of their capacity to support our vulnerable young people.

You will also be required to co-deliver the pre-panel training to prospective hosts, so experience of providing training or running groups is desirable.  Alongside this, you will be required to prepare and present assessments of prospective hosts to Fostering Panel.  Therefore, you will need to show that you are disciplined, highly organised and able to work to tight deadlines, with good presentation skills and a confident and articulate style.

A broad knowledge of processes, systems, law and regulation that impact young people, including looked after children is necessary for the role.

The role offers some flexibility to meet both the demands of the service and support staff to achieve a good work/life balance, so an adaptable approach and the ability to travel in a timely and effective manner is required.
