Role Responsibility

Temporary Full Time - up to 31st March 2022 (term time only will be considered)

An exciting opportunity has emerged within the Pupil Referral Unit, Inclusion and Attendance Service (PIAS), part of the Integrated Adolescent Service, to recruit a passionate individual with the drive and motivation to make a difference to the lives of children and young people in Kent.

We are looking for a practitioner with strong experience and knowledge within the education sector to join the West Kent team which includes the districts of Maidstone, Tonbridge & Malling and Tunbridge Wells.

Working in partnership with schools, Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) and colleagues in Integrated Children’s Services as well as external partners, our aim is to promote an improvement in school attendance and a reduction in exclusion.

Integrated working is fundamental to what we do, therefore you will have excellent communication and negotiation skills and be able to forge positive networks with a wide variety of services internal and external to KCC.

You will be the advisory professional who provides clarity to school leaders, governing boards, parents and multi-agency partners around the statutory requirements relating to attendance and exclusions set out by the Department for Education. Being able to balance support with appropriate challenge in complex situations is essential.

The Inclusion and Attendance Adviser requires strong organisation and planning skills, attention to detail and will need a secure knowledge of the legal framework within which the Inclusion and Attendance Service operates.

You will be required to travel across a wide geographical area in a timely and flexible manner at various times of the day and on occasion outside of core business hours.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
