Imports Compliance Officer

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

Kent Trading Standards are seeking self-motivated individuals to join the Ports Compliance Team. Every day presents a new challenge in this fast-paced environment. Your focus will be on determining if imported goods comply with relevant safety legislation and are safe to enter the United Kingdom and be used by consumers.

Educated to a minimum of Grade C GSCE in both Mathematics and English you will have an attention to detail and an inquisitive nature. You must also be prepared for the unexpected and remain calm under pressure, solve problems and have an ability to make quick sound decisions.

Working both independently and as part of a team, a flexible approach and an ability to objectively assess and prioritise your workload whilst supporting your colleagues, is a fundamental aspect of the role.

Communication skills and an ability to build relationships with importers, agents and partner agencies will be key as this role forms part of the UK Border Controls.

Based in Ashford, the role entails a mix of home/office working along with attendance at a number of ports and associated facilities within the county. You will be required to work at all locations and therefore must have the ability to travel across a wide geographical area in a timely and flexible manner at various times of the day.

You will receive full training for the job and will be expected to apply this knowledge effectively in the role.

It is essential to refer to the Job Description whilst completing your application as candidates will be shortlisted based on how closely they match the criteria.

The post holder must be vetted to an enhanced level (this will be arranged for you).

This post is subject to a Basic Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
