Imports Compliance Officer

Role Responsibility

Kent Trading Standards are seeking self-motivated individuals to join the ports compliance team based in Dover. As a Compliance Officer, you will focus primarily on helping to determine if imported goods comply with relevant safety legislation and are safe to enter the United Kingdom and to be used by the public. 

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to problem solve. Along with having an enquiring mind the post holder must have an attention to detail along with the ability to work within a team environmentAs part of the UK Border Controls, collaborative working is essential. 

Flexibility is key, as is an ability to objectively assess and prioritise your workloadThe successful candidate must also demonstrate a willingness to actively engage in the work of the unit including supporting colleagues to ensure that deadlines are met.  

The post holder may also be required to work at other locations to meet the needs of the service.  The ability to travel across a wide geographical area in a timely and flexible manner at various times of the day is essential.

The post holder must be vetted to an enhanced level (this will be arranged for you). 

This post is subject to a Basic Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

 This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
