Imports Compliance Officer - Kent Trading Standards

Role Responsibility

Kent Trading Standards are offering an exciting opportunity, for self-motivated and dynamic individuals to join the imports compliance team based in Dover. As a Compliance Officer within the Ports Team, your primary focus will be on determining if imported products are safe to enter the United Kingdom and be used by the general public. As part of the UK Border Controls, collaborative working with partner agencies will form an essential part of this role.

The successful candidate will enjoy a challenging, problem-solving role within a dynamic environment.

You will have proven problem-solving skills along with demonstrable communication and interpersonal skills. Along with having an enquiring mind the post holder must have an attention to detail an ability to work both within a team environment and using their own initiative.

Flexibility is key, as is an ability to objectively assess, manage and prioritise your caseload. The successful candidate must also demonstrate a willingness to actively engage in the work of the unit including supporting colleagues to ensure that deadlines are met.

Although this is a hybrid working position with a mix of working from home and the office, the team cover a variety of port locations and inland border facilities throughout Kent and the successful candidate will be expected to regularly attend and work at these locations often at short notice in order to meet the demands of the service. This role is therefore subject to the holding of a Full UK Driving Licence – The Council is committed to making reasonable adjustments so whilst this job requires the jobholder to drive your application will still be considered if you are unable to drive due to a disability.

This post is subject to a Basic Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service and Police Vetting. The post holder will also be required to successfully complete a Non-Police Personnel Vetting Level 2 prior to confirmation in the post.
