Head of Health & Safety

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

We are inviting applications for this senior managerial position in our busy, varied and solution focussed health and safety team.

The team provides professional advice and guidance on health, safety, and welfare issues across the Council, safeguarding our employees and others who could be affected by KCC activities.

This is a strategic management position. The post holder reports directly to the Corporate Director for People and Communications and is part of that Divisional Management Team. The Health and Safety team is highly visible as a result of its close work with frontline services.

The Health and Safety Team works collaboratively with all parts of the organisation to seek solutions to operational safety challenges as well as corporate issues affecting the residents of Kent.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual, with strong leadership and influencing skills, and a track record in organising health and safety in a multi-faceted environment.

Whilst the successful applicant will have health and safety technical knowledge to NEBOSH diploma level  or equivalent, it is important they are confident communicators with good people skills and the vision to embed health and safety as part of KCC’s wider operational culture. The post holder must be able to travel around a wide geographic area in a timely and flexible manner as required for site visits.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

As part of the interview process for this role you may be required to complete additional testing.

This post is subject to a Basic Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
