Graduate Highways & Transportation Engineer
Role Responsibility
Graduate Highways and Transportation Engineer
Ambitious graduates will thrive at Kent County Council. Our profession-based graduate programme is how the brightest become the best at what they do. This two-year opportunity focuses on highways and transport matters. That means training to become one of our dynamic, forward-thinking managers of the future as you complete three placements across the division. For you, this will also mean a permanent role within our Highways and Transportation service.
Together, we’ll look at everything from how we work with partner organisations to the many and varied aspects of the Council’s highways and transportation work. For you, this means a wide range of duties. Things like helping write strategies, assessing proposals, design work, delivering projects and dealing with customers.
You’ll gain an understanding of the county-wide, long-term picture of what we do to keep Kent on the move, while also developing the skills and insight you need to support, manage and, in time, lead a variety of essential Council functions.
It’s something that will involve working both on your own and in close collaboration with senior colleagues. You’ll discover there’s a strong emphasis on personal and professional development and you’ll have the opportunity to study for an Associate Project Manager apprenticeship – level 4.
About you
Innovative thinkers who see the bigger picture and have a fresh perspective are what we need. What you’ll bring to the equation is a degree (or equivalent) in a related discipline. We need people who can communicate effectively. Organisers who can and do to the very best of their abilities. You will make a difference by building strong foundations that span IT, analytical and problem-solving skills and will have a positive, think what’s possible approach that speaks up when it can and listens and learns all it can.
