Software Development Graduate Programme

Kent County Council
Choose an ICT career that delivers on innovation and social impact
Whether it’s a new cloud system or updating a well-used application – the technical element of digital projects only tells half the story. As part of Kent County Council’s Infrastructure team, your work will have a tangible impact on our 1.5m+ residents and thousands of businesses. It’s an opportunity with structured training and far-reaching potential – along with great responsibility from day one.
The role
Reporting directly to our Enterprise Architect, you’ll support the development and operation of our software and applications. Expect to work with directorates across the Council to help define requirements, before outlining technical solutions to meet them and supporting the commissioning process.
In turn, there’ll be time to focus on wider challenges, like the evolution of our technical vision. We’ll also ask you to collaborate on our ICT strategy and roadmap – particularly Microsoft 365 and SharePoint activities – to ensure it produces effective solutions that meet the existing and future needs of the Council and our partners. We’ll support your studies towards the Development Ops Engineer Apprenticeship qualification too.
Who can apply?
You’ll need at least a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in Maths/Science and GCSEs in English and Maths (grades C or above). As you might imagine, it’ll help to have a deep interest in UX, coding, data management and technical controls. Equally, we’re looking for a natural communicator who can explain complex topics in simple terms and enjoys collaborating with a mixture of teams.
