Family Involvement Worker

Role Responsibility

Information, Advice and Support Kent are a statutory impartial service that operates at arms-length from the Local Authority. It has a dedicated Helpline that offers children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, and their parents, confidential information, advice and support. The service aims to empower parents, children and young people to take an active and informed role with matters related to education, health and social care as it relates to their special educational needs.

We are looking to recruit a full time Family Involvement Worker to be based in Maidstone and work in the Canterbury, Swale and Thanet districts of Kent. You will work closely with a range of service users to provide detailed information and face to face support for complex casework. You will be responsible for promoting the service in your area and attend local events.

You will need to demonstrate a thorough understanding of SEND Legislation and have knowledge of the importance of impartiality and participation.  You will need to demonstrate experience of working with children, young people, parents and a range of partners including education providers and the voluntary sector.

Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential together with effective organisational skills. You will also need to demonstrate resilience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.  

The ability to travel to Canterbury, Swale and Thanet in a timely and flexible manner at various times of the day is essential.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
