Elective Home Education Support and Advice Officer - Fair Access
Role Responsibility
Term Time Only - 40 weeks per year
The Access to Education Team ensure that all children and young people (CYP) receive an education as is their entitlement by law.
We are looking to recruit a passionate individual with the drive and motivation to make a difference to the lives of children and young people in Kent. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to manage complex and challenging situations as well as the ability to keep accurate, up to date records.
You will be responsible for reviewing information about a child's home education, making contact with families (through email, home visits or virtual meetings) recording the learning, progress, achievements, and welfare of CYP. You will work collaboratively with partners and colleagues to ensure that CYP recorded as EHE are in receipt of a suitable education.
The role is one dedicated to supporting children in accessing the education to which they are entitled. It is the parent’s responsibility to educate, and the requirements of your role will vary on an individual case by case basis.
You will provide practical advice and guidance to families who are actively engaged in elective home education, while also offering appropriate support to those families where home education is no longer the preferred option or is not meeting the child’s needs.
This role is subject to holding a Full UK Driving Licence – The Council is committed to making reasonable adjustments so whilst this job requires the jobholder to drive your application will still be considered if you are unable to drive due to a disability.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
The recruitment process will include:
- Stage 1: Assessment Centre at Sessions House, Maidstone on Wednesday 13th May in the afternoon
- Stage 2: Panel interview (virtual) on Thursday 14th May
