In Kent we strive to ensure that our Early Help and Preventative Services promote resilience, not reliance. To do this, we provide a full range of support including Intensive Family support, open access and targeted responses to the needs of children, young people and families through our Children’s Centres and Youth Hubs.

Our Vision is that every child and young person, from pre-birth to age 25, and their family, who needs early help services will receive them in a timely and responsive way, so that they are safeguarded, their educational, social and emotional needs are met and outcomes are good, and they are able to contribute positively to their communities now and in the future, including their active engagement in learning and employment.

About the role:

We work together using a systemic approach, the unit undertakes casework with a range of families with children of all ages requiring intensive support for multiple issues. These issues may include domestic violence, prevention of the need for statutory social care intervention, children and young people experiencing significant attendance or behaviour difficulties at school as well as cases from Specialist Children’s Services. The Early Help Unit Staff are based throughout Thanet and work closely with open access services to ensure an integrated approach.

About you:

As this role provides intensive support for families it is important that candidates have the relevant experience, knowledge and skills and evidence this within their personal statement.

- You will hold a diploma (or level 3 equivalent) in Social care, Youth Justice, Youth Work, Education, Health or a relevant field, with working experience within a targeted support, casework, based environment.

- You will demonstrate the ability to create rapport and build professional relationships with children, young people and families. Working in partnership with families and professionals, you will be able to gather and interpret information from which you will be able to write assessments and action plans for progress achieving set aims and goals in a targeted approach.

- You will have sound knowledge of safeguarding and child protection to include relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks.

- You will be flexible in your approach and committed to helping to develop a new way of working.

- You will be committed to continuous professional development, working collaboratively to innovate and find new solutions, taking personal and professional responsibility for your actions and performance.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.
