Drainage Engineer

Role Responsibility

Two exciting opportunities have arisen to join the Drainage Team, as a Drainage Engineer. There is a vacancy in the Canterbury and Tunbridge Wells Districts. These will be full-time positions on a 37 hours per week contract (Monday to Friday). Candidates will be able to utilise hybrid working with a mixture of working from home and office.

The Highway Drainage teams aim to help everyone to make safe and reliable journeys on Kent’s highway network. We do this by regularly inspecting roads and footways, repairing faults and damage quickly, responding to highway emergency situations (including winter maintenance, flooding and other severe weather response), resolving faults reported by customers and engaging with local communities, Parish and District Councils.

The successful candidate will provide engineering support to the drainage technicians, liaising with and supporting other areas of Highways to ensure that we provide an efficient and outstanding service. A flexible approach to changing demands and ability to assess and prioritise your own workload whilst supporting your colleagues is a fundamental part of the role. As a proven team player, you will be able to deliver excellent customer service and achieve the best outcomes for Kent residents. You will be expected to be compassionate, understanding, and respectful to all. You should seek to innovate, improve and offer challenge.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual who can provide sound technical advice within the highway’s maintenance and asset management field.

It is essential that the candidate can travel across a wide geographical area in a timely and flexible manner at various times of the day.

This role is subject to holding a full UK Driving Licence.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
