Democratic Services Officer

Role Responsibility

Be at the heart of local government – apply to be a Democratic Services Officer today!

As a member of the Democratic Services team, you will play a vital role in facilitating local democracy. From organising and supporting the Council’s committee meetings and ensuring all statutory and constitutional requirements are met, to providing governance advice to Members and Officers across the council – you will be supporting local democracy in Kent.

You will also have excellent opportunities for your personal and professional development, including the option of undertaking a range of qualifications provided by the Association of Democratic Services Officers.

We’re looking for someone to join our team who can take on responsibility for the organisation of public committee meetings, including the preparation of agendas and reports and minutes; providing advice to officers and members; and maintaining the committee’s work programme.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A sound understanding of local government.
  • Confidence and political sensitivity in dealing with elected members and senior officers.
  • Experience of committee clerking and office administration.
  • An excellent standard of written English.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams.
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.

Location

The team currently has a hybrid model of working with some days in the office and some days working from home. You will be fully supported to do this, with the necessary induction, management, and equipment. You will be required to come into Sessions House, Maidstone, to clerk Committee meetings as and when required, and there may also be occasions where you need to travel to external meetings.
