Countywide Autism Lead Trainer

As part of Kent County Council’s countywide approach to inclusive education, the vision is to strengthen provision in mainstream settings so that the needs of children and young people with autism can be met in mainstream education to prepare them for adult life.
Kent County Council has recently acquired the licences to become a strategic partner of Autism Education Trust (AET), a Department of Education endorsed not-for-profit organisation, which offers training and practical tools to people working with autistic children and young people to build skills, confidence and knowledge.
This role will report to Principal Educational Psychologist and will be responsible for the implementation of a delivery plan to roll out a new programme of Autism training across all phases of mainstream education (early years, schools and post 16 settings) across Kent. This programme will use established training courses, bespoke materials and three frameworks provided by AET. The role includes the effective coordination of resources, evaluation of the programme and demonstration of impact.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Work closely with Management Information functions to make evidence based decisions to effectively target the training for areas and settings with greatest need.
- Coordinate and support training across a virtual multi-disciplinary team of training delivery partners
- Deliver training across all phases and settings as part of that team.
- Ensure all training delivery partners meet AET’s trainer criteria for each licensed phase and quality assure the training delivered.
- Ensure delivery of AET autism training in an informed, confident and engaging manner
- Work to ensure that the AET frameworks are embedded within schools and early years settings to build capacity and support inclusion of autistic children and young people within mainstream settings.
- Evaluate and report to stakeholders on the effectiveness and impact of the training that has been delivered across the county.
- Work with KCC colleagues to implement an internal training programme that supports a common language and understanding of autism amongst professionals.
- Develop and support communities of practice amongst KCC professionals working and supporting autistic children, young people and their families.
- Accountable to a steering group of stakeholders who will oversee the roll out and implementation of the training programme.
- Demonstrate and promote the partner organisations’ social values in accordance with their quality assurance policy.
- Maintain a collaborative and positive working relationship with the partner organisation, key stakeholders, including autistic children and young people and their families/ carers.
- Use insight and evidence for continuous improvement in systems, processes and delivery of the programme.
- Report back to AET on implementation of the delivery plan.
- Identify and implement processes and structures for the longer term sustainability of the programme in Kent

The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.
