Counter Fraud Specialist

At Kent County Council, we are inspired by the challenge of continuous improvement. We are delighted to announce the exciting opportunity for a Counter Fraud Specialist to strengthen our Internal Audit and Counter Fraud team.

We are recruiting a Counter Fraud Specialist to join our forward-thinking, innovative and ambitious Internal Audit and Counter Fraud Team. This is a great opportunity to applying your Counter Fraud skills and knowledge within one of the largest Local Authorities in England.  This is a career grade position with the grade being determined on knowledge and experience.

You will play an essential role in leading and supporting the Council’s continuing response to the threat of fraud, through pro-active work embedding an anti-fraud culture within the Council and its wholly owned arm’s length bodies.  You will manage a case load of complex cases and support the delivery of the Counter Fraud proactive and reactive work programme.   

The candidate we are looking for will:

  • be self-motivated with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, delivering awareness sessions to raise awareness of fraud risks;
  • demonstrate a consistent ability to develop and maintain business relationships;
  • have a positive approach and willingness to contribute towards our excellent reputation for providing respected work;
  • have a flexible approach to enable both the management of competing priorities and, at times, travel around the county to support investigations.
  • have a proven investigative background with experience of dealing with fraud, bribery and corruption issues, as well as strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate with confidence to diverse groups both face-to-face and in writing.
  • have experience of meeting multiple deadlines and managing own workload, as well as interpreting and understanding complex legislation, guidance and data sets.
  • have an awareness of how Local Government and the wider public sector operate as well as the role of Internal Audit and Counter Fraud.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position.  The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English / Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.

You will be an Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist and educated to “A” Level standard including 5 GCSEs (A-C/ 4 - 9) including Mathematics and English Language (or equivalent),
