Coroners Business Support Officer

Role Responsibility

Kent & Medway Coroners Service

This is your chance to play a vital business support role within the Coroners’ Service for Kent and Medway. You will take a proactive and highly organised approach to delivering the core administrative and financial functions that support the smooth running of the service and ensure high‑quality outcomes for bereaved families, partners, and the wider community.

Diligent in your approach and confident handling a range of business processes, you will be responsible for maintaining financial systems, processing invoices, managing data, and ensuring accurate records are kept in line with legislation, policy, and best practice. Your ability to work methodically, maintain excellent attention to detail, and manage competing priorities will be essential.

Working collaboratively with Coroners, Coroners Service Supervisors, Investigation Officers, Court Officers, Ushers, and volunteers, you will help maintain a resilient and effective service.

Aside from the financial functions a key part of your role will also be liaising sensitively and professionally with bereaved families, witnesses, partner agencies, and other stakeholders. You will demonstrate empathy, clarity, and confidence, especially when communicating with individuals who may be distressed or facing difficult circumstances. You will also be required to help with; inquest documentation, court technology is operated correctly, and legal compliance is maintained throughout.

You will bring a proven track record in business support or financial administration, ideally in a role requiring confidentiality, responsibility, and strong customer service skills. You must be confident using Microsoft 365, databases, Oracle systems, spreadsheets, and electronic records with accuracy and efficiency.

The position is based at Oakwood House in Maidstone, where we are co‑located with the Coroners Court. However, on occasion you may be required to travel across Kent and Medway to support the needs of the service, including transporting documents or equipment. The post is full‑time (9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday). There are also mandatory staff development events, including two Saturday sessions and two days of residential training each year, along with an expected professional dress standard due to the nature of the role.

Please note that Kent County Council is currently reviewing its pay scales, and the starting salary for this role may differ from the figure advertised as of 1 April 2026.
