Co-opted Independent Member of the Kent and Medway Police and Crime Panel

Role Responsibility

Dear Applicant, 

Thank you for your interest in becoming a co-opted independent member of the Kent and Medway Police and Crime Panel. 

The Panel’s key role is to maintain a regular check and balance on the performance of the directly elected Kent Police and Crime Commissioner. The Panel is looking for two committed and energetic people to serve as co-opted independent members from November 2025 for a four-year term.

The role of a Panel member will be an important and demanding one. In considering your application, you should be aware that the typical commitment required from a Panel member is expected to average one day a month, including preparation time. Meetings will generally be held in person during normal office hours at Kent County Hall, in Maidstone. All Panel members will be able to claim reasonable travelling expenses and the Independent Members are able to claim a small allowance. All Panel members will receive induction and other appropriate training.

The closing date for applications is Friday, 24 October 2025, after which the Panel will consider and assess all applications received. It is expected that shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview in County Hall, Maidstone on Tuesday, 11 November 2025.  

You will note that the application form asks for details of two referees. We intend to consider references for shortlisted candidates, prior to interviews. If you would not wish us to contact your referees at that stage, then please indicate within your application.
