Contract and Compliance Officer

Role Responsibility

Waste Management across Kent face several significant challenges in the years ahead, as housing growth is increasing demand on the waste sector. KCC Waste Management act as the Waste Disposal Authority for the County and are committed to maintaining and improving high quality services now and in the future, working with our District Partners and Contractors to minimise waste and increase recycling. We have a dedicated Team of Contract and Compliance Officers to ensure delivery of our day to day operations and future planning of our waste infrastructure, contracts and services.

The opportunity

We are offering an exciting opportunity within Waste Management, to be part of the Waste Services team in managing the contractual and operational aspect of waste disposal for Kent.  We are looking for a motivated individual who can work flexibly as the service requires, and work collaboratively as part of a team. You will need to pro-actively manage contracts which have been assigned to you, and inspect waste facilities for compliance both in terms of contractual and legislative adherence.

The Person

We are seeking a dynamic, flexible and reliable person who has a resilient and confident personality to be part of the Waste Services team.

The role demands the ability to lead, discuss and negotiate contractual issues at Contract Boards with a confident, knowledgeable and approachable manner whilst ensuring that lasting relationships are maintained with the contractors, at the same time as managing performance.

You will be required to solve operational problems and customer issues, both on site, in person and via telephone (sometimes out of hours) and suggest innovative solutions to long term or complex issues to ensure that services are delivered in an efficient, reliable, compliant and cost effective manner.

Being able to scrutinise data, produce reports and understand commercial and waste industry information is paramount to ensure that intelligent and informed decisions are made with regard to future procurements and the commissioning of waste management solutions.

You will be required to have experience in successfully delivering projects and dealing with contractors at management and operational levels, as well as ensuring health and safety, the Environment and customer service remain the focus of the service.

The ability to travel across a wide geographical area in a timely and flexible manner at various times of the day is essential.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
