Communications Officer

Role Responsibility

We have an exciting opportunity for a Communications Officer to work with us on a 12 month contract to improve the resident experience of services and raise awareness of the work of the largest county council in the country.

About the role

Working in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team, you will promote, manage and protect the reputation of the council through proactive and reactive public relations and communications.

Your focus will be on handling media enquiries and writing and producing compelling content (from media releases and social media content to videos, articles and news features) that help tell our story. You’ll be confident in publishing content on multiple channels, including our website, social media and in newsletters. You’ll be experienced in building positive working relationships with local, regional and national media and be comfortable working with senior council officers and members. You will also be part of an out-of-hours on-call service on a rota basis, for which an additional allowance is provided.

About you

You will be adept at handling media enquiries, talking to journalists and senior leaders. You will know how to tell our story and promote the work and priorities of the council. You will have excellent spoken and written English and be able to turn complex information into easy-to-understand and engaging content. You’ll have plenty of experience and skills in creating a wide range of clear and engaging content including media releases and statement, videos, articles and features and social media. As well as being able to juggle competing priorities and organizing your work to meet deadlines.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
