Commercial Accountant

Role Responsibility

We have an opportunity for a new KR10 Commercial Accountant within the Chief Accountant’s Team, Finance DivisionKent County Council (KCC). This post is offered for 12 months, full-time. Both internal and external applicants are welcome. For internal applicants, this would be offered as a Secondment. Please see attached job description for full details. Location of vacancy: Sessions House, Maidstone. (This is the primary location, however currently working from home with potentially some office working in Maidstone).

 

The role involves supporting the Chief Accountant in the delivery of Group Accounts for the Council, helping to ensure consistent accounting treatment. You will work collaboratively with Kent Holdco Ltd and its subsidiary companies. You will be expected to develop contacts and relationships with other Councils and implement best practice.

 

You will be required to implement new accounting standards and ensure compliance with KCC policies, liaising closely with Kent Holdco, the subsidiary companies, and other Councils in doing so. Another key element of the role is providing a professional financial vetting service and to support the Commercial Manager in monitoring the performance of the subsidiaries, liaising with Holdco. This will involve supporting the Commercial Accounting Manager to undertake due diligence on proposals of a commercial nature, particularly where the Council is considering entering a new contract or joint venture. 

You will be educated to A level/NVQ Level 4 (e.g. AAT) or equivalent in an accountancy/statistical/mathematical subject, and/or with proven ability to do the job.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
