Celebratory Usher
Role Responsibility
Kent Libraries Registration & Archives
USHER - Grade KR3
Based at Oakwood House
Kent Register Offices conduct marriage and civil partnerships, renewals of vows and welcoming ceremonies throughout the year, with the busiest times being throughout the peak months of June-September. These range from small ceremonies with 10-15 attendees up to larger ceremonies of 70-80 guests. Our Ushers are the first point of contact for all guests attending larger ceremonies at our Kent Register Offices.
To assist our Celebratory staff to deliver an excellent ceremony for our customers within the legal framework, we need the right people welcoming our customers to our venues and assisting with enquiries throughout the day. Relevant experience isn’t essential – it’s much more important that you’re friendly, outgoing and approachable. If you enjoy working as part of a team, have a friendly helpful attitude to the public and are interested in delivering services to the community we would welcome a call from you.
The successful applicant will have excellent people skills, feel comfortable meeting the public and be able to facilitate the smooth running of ceremonies at our Kent Approved Premises (KAPs) by supporting Celebratory staff by liaising with and welcoming ceremonies guests.
We have an annualised hour contract available for 234 hours per annum. The salary will be paid in equal monthly instalments over the year regardless of the hours worked that month. The busiest days are Fridays and Saturdays throughout the peak months of June-September. Some busier days involve multiple ceremonies in close succession.
This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.
