Blue Badge Eligibility Assessor

Role Responsibility

We are currently seeking a qualified Occupational Therapist with the Health and Care Professions Council to join our small team based in Maidstone as a Blue Badge Eligibility Assessor.  You will be taking on an exciting role conducting independent mobility assessments for Kent County Council with the Blue Badge Assessment Service. 

Role Overview:

- To carry out proportionate desktop, telephone and specialist functional mobility assessments of individuals with physical and non-visible disabilities, applying for blue badges and make recommendations about eligibility.

- To ensure you are meeting the Government Requirements for the issuing of Blue Badge so that the people who require the badge have access to disabled parking.

- Some travel will be required across the County in order to facilitate an eligibility clinic to carry out face to face assessments.

- To make clear and accurate records of assessments, recommendations, outcomes and other work using standard assessment/report formats; including the provision of detailed reports/recommendations to other agencies and departments where appropriate and any associated administration.

- To signpost and to make referrals to other agencies as appropriate.

The successful applicant will receive training, support and supervision, however there is an expectation of working knowledge of assessing individuals. There are also flexible working opportunities. You will need to be able to work independently and as part of the team, be resourceful and have clear and concise recording skills; you will also be reliable, flexible and resilient.  Suitable applicants include Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists with clinical experience of mobility based assessments.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring service and a relevant professional qualification (Nursing or Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy) as well as up to date registration with the appropriate professional body.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
