Archive Services Officer (Cataloguing)

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

The Kent Archives and Local History Service has vacancies for two cataloguing archivists in its Archive Service Officer team. The role is for two years. The posts will complement an existing small, friendly and highly motivated team of Archivists.

The posts are based at the Kent History and Library Centre, wherein are housed documents, manuscript and printed books, maps, photographs, and drawings relating to 1300 years of Kent’s history. The collections include the Kent County Archive, the archives of Kent’s two Anglican dioceses, parish records, many borough and other local government collections, and extensive private/unofficial archives. Kent Archives and Local History Service is an Accredited Archives Service and has Place of Deposit status for housing public records.

The successful candidates will work on a variety of modern collections to help reduce our cataloguing backlog, including a big unofficial archive and the records of a large architectural firm.

The cataloguing role requires a qualified archivist, or someone with equivalent experience, with the ability to catalogue to ISAD(G) standards using archival cataloguing software, specifically CALM; excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills; good competence in IT; and the ability to meet deadlines.

Kent County Council is one of the country’s biggest local authorities and provides a comprehensive package of benefits and employee support https://www.kent.gov.uk/jobs/careers-with-us/working-for-us#tab-2
